Kinetic homepage hangs when trying to log into the legacy Kinetic smart client

When using the legacy Kinetic smart client, after a user enters their user credentials, the homepage screen freezes/hangs and never finishes loading.

OR

We want to shift the majority of legacy classic form caching process from the login process to when end users launch a menu item to reduce the time it takes to login.

Resolution

SECTION A: CHANGING THE DEFAULT MaxBOMRU and MaxClssAttrMRU SETTINGS IN LEGACY KINETIC CLIENT SYSCONFIG:

1. Right-click on the Kinetic client shortcut and select Properties.

2. On the Shortcut tab, make note of the value of the /config parameter at the end of the target line.
In the screenshot below, the /config parameter value would be saas1001.sysconfig

3. Click Open File Location button.

4. Open config folder.

5. Right-click on the/config file name identified in step 2 and open with/edit in a text editor (e.g. Notepad).

6. Search for MaxBOMRU. Change the value between the double quotes to 0.

7. Search for MaxClssAttrMR. Change the value between the double quotes to 0.

8. Save your changes.

SECTION B: PERSISTING THE MaxBOMRU and MaxClssAttrMRU CHANGES THROUGH A CLIENT AUTOUPDATE:

Settings within the <appSettings>/<appSettings> section of the sysconfig file will be overwritten by the values in the .sysconfig file hosted on the Kinetic server the next time there is an autoupdate triggered on this workstation. Setting values within the <userSetting> section of the sysconfig take precedence over setting values located in any other section within the .sysconfig file.  Having the same setting (in this situation, both MaxBOMRU and MaxClssAttrMRU) in the <appSettings> and <userSettings> sections is not a concern, and the value within <userSettings> will be used by the client. To persist these changes through a client autoupdate:

1. Select and copy the entire existing MaxBOMRU and MaxClssAttrMRU lines that are within the <appSettings></appSettings> section of the sysconfig file in question.

2. Create a new line underneath the <userSettings> line and paste the data that was copied in the previous step.

3. Save your changes.

SECTION C: MANUALLY CLEARING THE KINETIC CLIENT CACHE:
1.  Search for AlternateCacheFolder and make note of the path between the double quotes.
If the value between the double quotes is blank/empty, the path that will be used in the next step would be
C:\Programdata\Epicor .

2. Close the text editor with the .sysconfig open.
3. Launch Windows File Explorer, and navigate to the path identified in step 1 within this section.
4. Delete all subfolders within this folder have a name that ends with a hyphen and then a series of two or three digit numbers such as -443, -808, or -80 .
